Sex and Taboo

Why is sex such a taboo? It is a biological function.

Is sex such a problem because it reminds humans of their basic, core animal nature? I think that one of the important reasons is that it signifies lack of control over desires. Lack of control in general can be detrimental to survival.
An equanimous and balanced mind will probably not feel very horny now and then.

But should we supress it?
