There is limited amount of things one can do without low tech. Eg. I can use an analogue multimeter instead of digital multimeter. But I won't get any in sahibganj. Building my own analogue multimeter will take time. Getting from outside will take time. A digital multimeter simplifies life. 

In most of the instances, tech is more about simplifying life. In some cases, it is not needed. But why will I not chose to make my life easy.
