Human nature and movies

Can the success of movies predict human nature? Do movies reflect the mentality of society? If so,  successful movies are a reflection of our internal desires. Are we a voyeuristic and vicarious society? Living through the lives of others. Maybe this is why I don't connect with most movies.

Marketers can take some clues from movies.
